Think hybrid electrics (or just plan electric) vehicles can’t rival the power of their gas engine brothers? Think again.
Here’s a hybrid electric vehicles that’s been on the “road” for almost 70 years:

Yep, the diesel locomotive. Virtually every diesel locomotive working today (and a good chunk of them since the late 1930′s) are actually electric vehicles. The diesel engine drives a generator that creates the electricity for the motors that actually turn the wheels. It’s called a “serial hybrid electric” as opposed a “parallel hybrid electric” like a Prius, where both motors can run at the same time, or not.
Electric motors can sure be powerful. Who knew?
